I wanted to avoid designing a chair by starting with the simplest of constructions, a sort of archetypical but stylized Adirondack chair in painted plywood. But it needed side tables, then it needed a reading light. Then it needed to dissolve.
When the chair gets out of control, the light starts to move out towards the borders and red, so deep and material and suggestive, holds the thing onto the earth. The “sedia Luce” which means “chair light” or Light chair, is a solid piece of construction. It is chair, tables, and light all in one. Light is introduced as a dematerializing element, integrated into the chair, and then starts to float out of the construction into pale pink panels of luminous transparency.
