Davos Dilemma è una mostra che metterà a confronto, in un dialogo serrato su temi scottanti quali la funzione dell’arte nell’economia globale e il rapporto controverso tra arte e design, il lavoro della design californiana Johanna Grawunder e quello dell’artista newyorkese Rob Pruit.
Verranno presentati un’installazione e una performance appositamente realizzati per la Galleria dell’American Academy of Rome. Il titolo della mostra si riferisce esplicitamente all’idea emersa durante l’ultimo vertice economico mondiale di Davos.
Qual’è il dilemma di Davos? Si è sempre ritenuto che per una crescita costante dell’economia globale, dovesse esserci un clima di stabilità, ma questo sembra non corrispondere più alla realtà. Guerre, conflitti sociali, instabilità politica, al contrario, agirebbero positivamente sull’economia, rilanciando i consumi, ma creando scenari caratterizzati da contrasti sociali e forti contraddizioni. Proprio questo divario sarà il luogo d’incontro della materia grezza usata da Johanna Grawunder e dell’arte concettualmente ironica di Rob Pruit.
The Davos Dilemma exhibition will bring together the work of the Californian designer Johanna Grawunder and the New York based artist Rob Pruitt, putting them face to face to in a tight dialogue about the function of arte in the global economy and the controversial relationship between art and design.
An installation and a performance conceived of especially for the gallery of the American Academy in Rome will be presented. The title of the exhibition explicitly refers to the idea that emerged at the last world meeting in Davos.
What is the Davos Dilemma? It was always thought that for the world economy to constantly grow stability was required, but this does not seem to correspond to today’s reality. Wars, social conflicts, political instability on the contrary seem to act positively on the economy, promoting demand, but also creating social contrasts and strong contradictions. This divergence will be the meeting point of between the raw materials used by Johanna Grawunder and the ironical conceptual art of Rob Pruitt.
